The June meeting started 5 minutes early in a very warm room. We received apologies from Young Chris, Noel, Lisa and Steve. It was mentioned that Elsie was probably on her way but the Chairman took no notice and started the meeting anyway. The minutes were proposed and seconded and it was at this time that Elsie arrived. Which was embarrassing for the Chairman. Elsie announced that she needed the toilet and the meeting paused, no timing of the loo break was taken. During this time Chairman Andrew got angry with his father for something I missed and said he was considering fining his father for "being a muttering disgruntled old farmer". So I was totally late... I decided if I was going to be late I might as well get a drink from the bar. My excuse was I was on French time. What I interupted was a talk on Leonard Cheshire Disability. A fascinating history of Leonard and his personal and charitable work including the history of the Leonard Cheshire Homes. What I hadn't appreciated before was that there were so many! I had wrongly thought it was only our Leonard Cheshire Home near Troutbeck Bridge. Not only is Leonard Cheshire worldwide but there are 170 services in the UK including a centre in Kendal and Barrow. Leonard Cheshire need help in fundraising, volunteering and attendance at events. On treasurers report we had income from classic vehicle show entries and…

Windermere and Ambleside Lions were delighted to welcome the Lions club from Limoux, France. Seven members of the French club came to Ambleside to meet and dine with the Brits having decided to twin the two clubs. The delegation from France included Peter from Wigan who now lives full time in France. Lion French Peter and Lion French President Christian welcomed and toasted each club and thanked Lakes Lions for their hospitality. They singled out Lion Chris for his help in organising the trip. Limoux club was formed in 1977 and part of the delegation included Gilbert who was a founding member. The club meet twice a month including one with a meal (sounds good to me!!). There was a brief discussion as to who was to chair the meeting but it was settled on Maggie. However Peter pointed out that the chair of the first meeting usually buys a round for everyone present. In correspondence two cards were received, one from a resident who was thankful for firewood deliveries and the second from the Alice's Escapes family. The club received an appeal regarding the Guide hut in Ambleside. The Guide hut had over 4 feet of water and almost all of the items inside have been damaged beyond use. A QUICK CORRECTION - Last month was November not October. The number of Lions were down in our December meeting and it started with a missed call to Ronnie's phone. Ronnie did not know it was ringing and it took some investigation to decide it was him making a noise. Keith stood in as Chair and Philip stood in as Tail Twister deciding everyone would get fined for something this evening. The treasures report was well read by Peter and included Santa Suits, Jingling, Classic Cars,  Paddlers and £65.50 raised from the wishing well. On 22nd November Lion Peter visited Ulverston to attach the plaque to the Caravan Windermere and Ambleside Lions bought for Alice's Escapes. In the picture are 2nd VDG Roy Axton. Past DG Liz Axton, Cathy Bloomfoield of Alice's Escapes and Lion Peter. The caravan was bought by W & A Lions Club for £25000.00. It was equipped and the disabled access deck bought with money donated by Lions Clubs International Foundation, this was in excess of £18000.00. LCIF  gave this as a "match funding" on the back of our donation. The extra money was organised by 2nd Vice District Governor Roy Axton. Windermere and Ambleside Lions have once again delivered for their community Local Lions have delivered a cheque worth a whopping £3,000 to Bendrigg Trust in Old Hutton. The money was raised from the Windermere and Ambleside Lions Lakes Charity Classic Vehicle Show. A further £3,000, also raised at the annual show, has also been given to the Lake District Calvert Trust. Several Lakes Lions members visited the site which provides a residential activity centre specialising in high quality courses for disabled and disadvantaged people, of any age or ability. Donations are very important to keep Bendrigg trust running and members were impressed with the facilities on offer.
