September Meeting – Who buys a book about Potatoes – and keeps it for 20 years?….!

6th September 2016 – Windermere & Ambleside Lions – Business Meeting

Not much of a blog this week – I started with good intentions, but my ability to listen, contribute and write at the same time fizzled out at the night went on…must try harder next time…

Apologies received from Elsie, Ben, Laura, Maggie, Andrew, Ronnie

Meeting started early at 19:57 ! – with the promise of an early finish!

Meeting opened early at 19:57 by President Steve introducing Julie Wright, Town Clerk – from Windermere Town Council to discuss Lions Park in Langrigge Road in Bowness – the Lions used to maintain Lions Park before handing it to Windermere Town Council to manage. The park is well located near to Bowness village centre, and boasts a nice view over windermere – and it is well used. It has been subject to damage from local hooligans over the years, which WTC has managed to improve – and now some of the equipment requires replacement. They have had a quotation to replace a small climbing frame and fit two ‘springers’ for £8,800 – and they have asked Windermere Lions if we would be willing to contribute toward this.

Lots of confusion around who lost the raffle last week and therefore should have brought the prize this week. We thought it might have been Christoph in the first instance, but then we realised that Christop actually won the raffle last month…so perhaps it was Ronnie? No one knows, and its not in the minutes from last month – but seeing as there is a nice mug on the table – and Christoph has brought a book about potatoes with him then we thought we were probably OK for prizes this month…..

Miss Money-Penny’s Treasurers Report

Leos Report

Our Leos members received 7.5 hours toward Lions Young Leader in Service award for helping the Chenoble children on their recent visit to England. Through selling sweets and running a football stand and running a bouncy castle on the glebe this month the Leos raised about £500 between them! Not bad since they only started their club on 21st July. Halloween disco party in October. Bag packing for St Johns Hospice for their service award.

Windermere & Ambleside Lions Club pledged to contribute £125 toward a Leos-branded feather banner and a pull up banner.

Welfare

  • £2,000 pledge was agreed for the required work on Lions Park.
  • Anthony has offered the use of his hotel facilities if the Club wanted to host a Macmillan coffee morning.
  • Thia is borrowing the tombola

Fundraising

  • Brathay – we made a staggering £61 on the bouncy castle!
  • Jingle Bell Jog – a meeting was arranged for this year’s event. The location / route is likely to change this year due to local sewerage works.
  • Car Show – a meeting was arranged for next year’s event

Membership

  • Philip raised the subject of a potential new member – very exciting!

Young Chris won the book about potatoes – Christoph seemed reluctant to hand the book over after 20 years of it being in the family..

Meeting finished at 22.15 – what happened to the early finish we were promised?!

Told you it fizzled out…..!
