Windermere & Ambleside Lions Jingle Bell Jog
On Sunday 17th December undeterred by the cold an frosty morning and the wet weather, around one hundred people took to the streets of Bowness, dressed in their festive outfits and completed the Jingle Bell Jog.
Organized by the Windermere & Ambleside Lions Club this annual event puts the FUN into fundraising and encourages people to dress up in festive clothing and walk, jog or run around a short and scenic course. The turnout was impressive – and the costumes even more so – we saw santa’s, reindeer, snowmen, fairies, christmas trees and even the ghost of Christmas past made an appearance! This family event attracts people of all ages and abilities and is accessible for wheelchairs, push chairs – and some even brought their dogs along!
The whole community really got involved with this event – with Councillor Ben Berry on Registration, Town Mayor Leith Hallatsch handing out medals on the finish line. St John’s Hospice provided the catering, Emma Robinson a fitness instructor from the Low Wood Bay Health Club providing a festive warm up, The Bryce Street Strummers ukulele band providing the entertainment, the Mountain Massage Company offering free massages and Anytime Fitness in Kendal providing refreshments and goody bags to all the Jingle Bell Joggers, with help from Sight Advice South Lakes.
All entrants received a medal – and spot prizes were offered for the best dressed and most festive Jingle Bell Joggers!
The Jingle Bell Jog is one of many fundraising events organized by the Windermere & Ambleside Lions Club – and marks the end of their festive fundraising season. Throughout December the Lions Club has organized a stall at the Windermere Christmas Celebration, delivered logs to the elderly around Windermere & Ambleside, co-organised the “Spirit of Christmas” at the Low Wood for around 200 elders within the community, and then finished off with the Jingle Bell Jog. All funds raised by the Lions Club are distributed to local charitable causes, and we are always looking for new volunteers!
