Lakes Lions were out in full force at two fantastic local events, our very own Jingle Bell Jog and the “Windermere Ja” Christmas Market. This blog post is a buy one get one free with two quick reports on how they went:
Windermere & Ambleside Lions hosted its 2nd annual Jingle Bell Jog on Sunday 4th December 2016 – encouraging local residents and tourists to dress up in Christmas outfits and walk, jog, jingle or run a 2km or 4km course along the shores of Windermere in the Southern Lake District. The weather was fine and crisp and over 150 people turned up with their families, pushchairs, wheelchairs and dogs and took part in this FUNdraising event. Everybody got a medal for finishing – and could buy teas, coffees, mince pies and mulled wine to keep themselves warm. The event raised in excess of £900 and supports local charities Sight Advice South Lakes and St Johns Hospice.
Windermere & Ambleside supported the local community by taking a stall at the Ja Windermere German Christmas Markets on 10th and 11th December, offering a Tombola to market visitors – with prizes donated by local companies. Local residents and tourists alike flocked to Windermere in their thousands to the first Christmas Market in Windermere for decades – with crowds filling the streets for two solid days. Over the course of two days Windermere & Ambleside Lions Club took in excess of £1,300 on the Tombola alone!
