Skydiving Lions and blind canoeing

The April meeting was at the regular venue of the Hydro Hotel in Bowness on Windermere on the 1st of the month. Skydiving Lions was not an April Fools joke but a member of Lions club raising funds for blood bikes, a volunteer service delivering blood and organs out of hours. Windermere and Ambleside Lions were thanked for a previous donation to Medic Aid. The club were also thanked by a couple in Ambleside who have benefited from a battery that aids a wheelchairs power. The club discussed accessing match funding for Alice Escapes, to match funds given for the purchase and furbishment of a caravan. Lions support kids 5 a side at March meeting

The March meeting was back at the Windermere Hydro Hotel and thin on the ground where Lions were concerned because of a big wedding. But that didn't stop Windermere and Ambleside making decisions to benefit the community. The club has an excellent working relationship with the local Police and when PCSO Sarah Blacow approached the club for funds for a five a side tournament for local kids the club jumped at the chance. £80 was donated to provide cups and trophies to the event which is designed for young people from different local schools to create better integration between school groups. A request was also made for the club to attend the Low Wood No Wood Cardboard Boat Race with their bouncy castle. The club hope to support the event.…

Burn How Lunch Raises £112,651 for Sunbeams Music Trust

Sunbeams wasreminded of the power of friendship this year, when Founder and Chief Executive, Annie Mawson attended the memorial of the much loved Michael Jenkins (or Mr J as he was affectionately known by his pupils). Mr J was Headmaster of St Anne’s school in Windermerein the 1970’s (and the early 1990’s). Annie, who was then the Head of Geography, was invited to play at the memorial service back in May, and there got talking to formerdeputy head-teacher Miss Gunning, and Michael and Vicki Robinson whose daughter attended the school.
